REPORT:
It
certainly did not feel like September as the Trophy Bassmasters competed in
their 10th club tournament of the season last Sunday on Knox Lake.
Even though it was fairly comfortable at the 7:00AM start time, the
temperature was well into the 80s by 10:00AM on its way to the high 90’s by
the 3:00PM weigh-in. Thirteen anglers battled the heat in search of 12”
largemouth bass that would take their artificial offerings. No live bait is
allowed during the competition. Bringing in the largest sack of fish for the
day was Boyd Downey. He had a 5 fish limit that totaled 8Lb-4oz. This was
Downey’s 3rd victory in the last 4 tournaments to move in within
striking distance of the club’s point championship. Second place went to Steve
Barker. He had 7lb-6oz in 4 keepers which he reportedly caught in the closing
moments. Chris Swygart also had 4 keepers that weighed 7lb-2oz for the third
place position. Big Bass for the day was shared by Swygart and Barker as they
each had a 2lb-4oz bass. A total of 28 fish weighing an even 40lbs were scored
and released alive. This being the 10th tournament , the anglers
were able to start discarding their lowest score as only the top 9 tournament
finishes can be counted. A scoring system of 35pts for a 1st place finish,
30pts for 2nd, 27pts for 3rd, 25pts for 4th,
and 1 less point for each lower place finish after that is used to determine
the Mr. Bass point champion.
